I got out for about 5 hours today. Wasnt too bad out there but the south wind blew pretty well. Caught a bunch of fish and kept 21 pretty good ones. The water temp is between 41 and 42. Interesting story from today:
There are big wads of shad down in the water column starting to show in deep water. They look like big brush piles on my Humminbird. They made a fool out of me at first. 4 or 5 times I saw them on the graph and thought I was finding these new huge brush piles where I swore there werent any brush piles! I thought I was going crazy. Id mark them and come back and there would be nothing there. I was cussing my electronics bad. They looked identical to huge brush piles extending up 6 or 8 feet off the bottom. So i eventually caught on to what was going on. Later in the day I was on a spot and I watched schools of them on my graph swim through...they looked like solid brush when they were under the boat...then nothing 10 seconds later..then the next minute they were back. They sure had me fooled for awhile.
I may have a day off on Tuesday or Wed. I may come down and try my luck. Thanks for the info. Any pics?

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
We had a similar problem sat. We found big fish under the bait in 20fow and caught one but by the time I got the fish off and got back on the trolling motor the school had moved.

Can't tell you how many times, especially this time of year, I have dropped markers on those shad schools. Even after you're aware of it, they dark up the screen SO MUCH you think it HAS to be brush. Lately I've been stomping on the floor of the boat then spinning around to look at the screen again. Usually there are only remnants of the school when you pass back over. It drives me crazy.
I've done the same thing I now how you felt.
can't catch'em at home
