Feel like a novice all over again.
Buddy asked me to accompany him in his rig to fish for some crappie this afternoon, which I was glad to do. Have been fishing from the bank for a long time now and kind of have a system for myself.
So when I go out with him, I know I'll have to adapt. Low and behold, I wasn't prepared for the embarrassment he put on me, he was pulling in some nice slabs and I never even seemed to get a nibble. We fished the same set-ups, just felt like I was always either getting untangled or just a step behind. Frustrating to say the least.
Totally different technique than what I'm accustomed to. He's a bass fisherman, he could flip his jig wherever he wanted and when I tried it, I ended up a tangled mess. I've never flipped before but tried as best I could to no avail.
Getting skunked like that sucks, but opened my eyes to the many ways to approach crappie. We both had 10' rods but he made it look so easy....
Frustration got the best of me so I sat and watched to try and pick up a few things from him.
Am done venting for now.
Good fishing everyone!

Practice makes perfect at least that is what i have always heard, once you learn the technique you will say to yourself "That wasn't that hard to learn" just keep tryin.
To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Required
catchem.....im not telling this story to brag on myself but to make you feel better. Years ago an outdoor writer wanted to do a story on an old oxbow I used to fish in southwest illinois. We were supposed to bass fish half a day and crappie fish half a day. Well the bass would not bite...so we fished crappies. We had the same set up...same depth...same bait (minnows) and often times fished with 2 feet of each others bobbers. As i recall I caught around 70 and he caught like 4. It got to the point where it was just plain embarressing for me...not to mention him. Then we just started laughing each time my cork would go under sitting right next to his. The only thing I could determine different as I recall was line size. I was using 6 and i think he had either 8 or 10. Was it the line? Who knows. It just happens sometimes...so stick with it and it may be you on the up side next time!
I have seen this before whether crappie fishing or bass fishing. Once while on lake Michigan trolling for salmon only the one side of the boat would catch fish. The other side of the boat rigged exactly the same. Go figure. Sometimes all the skill in the world doesnt match up to plain old luck. Tight lines.
Don't matter who caught them. Just make sure they take a picture of YOU behind them at the end of the day! LOL! Keep fishing and you can show someone up some day.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
I'm not sure why that happens. Some days a person will go with a friend and he will catch the fish and another day you will catch the fish. Never happens to me though. LOL just kiddn, it always happens to me. Maybe thats why I fish alone so much. LOL
