    Smile Instead Of Crappie Fishin'

Here is a picture of my buddy, my squirrel dog, and 3 squirrels we harvested yesterday. He and I often crappie and catfish together in the summer. He is 76 years old.

My squirrel dog is nationally ranked in a competition squirrel dog kennel club's standings.

Squirrel dogs are dogs that tree squirrels. There are dogs that are bred to tree squirrels. 2 of the breeds are Mt Curs and Feists. Pinkie is a Mt Cur.

If anyone is interested, you can get lots of information on Welcome to Squirrel Dog Central

I am Redtick on that board also. This time of the year I spend more time on the hunting boards than on the fishing boards but I always click on this board.

Your buddy 76 years young, more power to him to be able to get around like that, me I 70 in one month and not as good as he looks but I get around some. Good looking hunting dog you got. Good luck hunting to the 3 of you.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

We have cut back on our hunting some, we just go for short circles for around an hour or so. We don't hunt some of the rough spots we used to hunt. When it comes to crappie fishin', we haven't cut back much.

I must have a squirrel dog also and never knew it. Everytime I put my lap dog outside to do her business all the squirrels out there run up the tree.

    Sorry redtick I could'nt resist.

Congrats on have such a good hunting budddy to build memories with. I lost a old deer hunting buddy of mine a couple of years ago and deer season hasn't been the same sense.

Looks like fun. I used to squirrel hunt years ago when I was a kid then I took up crappie fishn and deer huntin. Boy was that a mistake. I could not imagine how much money I could have saved if I would have not started those hobbies. But they are fun so I will keep on doing them.
Glad you and your good huntin buddy are still together and gettin out there after them.

Squirrel dogs come in all shapes and breeds. If they run a squirrel up a tree and bark at it until you get there, they qualify.

CX, I attend some competion squirrel hunts in Jefferson County. You and your son would be welcome to go on a cast sometime. We will be attending events there until late Spring. We are always trying to get new folks interested and even if you are not wanting to get involved in squirrel hunting with dogs, you may enjoy the sportsmen and the dogs. We don't harvest, we just score the dogs.

    Thumbs up

Jason Newkirk and I had a good squirrel hunt this afternoon. We harvested 3 squirrels, 2 fox, 1 gray, and should have had some others. The dogs did well.

We did run into a deer hunter who asked us if we had permission to hunt. We were on Jason's property and Jason could have given him a bad time. But, we try to get along with fellow hunters.
