Lake of Egypt
Fished Lake of Egypt last Saturday. Caught about 20 but all of them were 9.5 inches. Very frustrating. Tried minnows with no luck. Ended up catching them on Charley Brewer baits and casting. Grassy points seemed to be key pattern. Anyone had any luck here lately?
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

My buddy down there owns the marina in the back I talked to him the other day he said they have all been small they are going through a restocking program from the way he talked nobody has been catching anything of size down there this year

In my humble opinion the Egypt crappie population is a shell of its former self and has been for quite sometime. Still has some trophies in it...but if your trying to catch dinner...its tough.

I caught some 12-13 inchers there in the spring... on jerkbaits bash fishing!

My family bought a lake house there 2 yr's ago. We spent a year fixing up the house so I haven't spent a lot of time trying the crappie on Eygpt. I read alot about how good the crappie fishing was years back and hope it gets back there again some day. Thet are stocking the lake. The bass fishing has been pretty good. When I get down there I usually head over to Crab orchard where I have had much better luck.
The exception has been in Jan/Feb when we've had some success. Problem then is the place can be pretty busy.
Best of luck....

The bass fishing has been on an up cycle the last couple of years...the crappie have gone in the opposite direction. Crappie are tremendous spawners. The populate like crazy. So if you hear they are stocking crappie it gives you an idea of just how bad it probably is. I fished it at times for over 15 years....and at its very very best it never came close to Crab Orchard in terms of sheer volume of crappie. Crab is still full of them...and never once had a limit of size or creel put on it in its history to my knowledge. Egypt on the other hand has had a creel limit for as long as I can remember and it still nose dived into the ground. Stange...but true.
