    Default Crab Orchard 10-26-09

Kept 27 today between 9 and 12.5 inches. Bite was tough all over the lake. I must have hit 20 different spots...and 18 of them I got nothing but a dink here and there. All of them came from 2 little spots. One was a big stump on the edge of the old hwy 13 road bed and the other was a line of brush off a point. Fish bit much better late. I caught fish until I could not see the end of my 10 foot rod...basically near dark. Depth about 9 feet. Red head with white caught most of them. Strange fishing today....but the weather was really nice.

My wife and I came down last weekend and this weekend from St. Louis to crappie fish at Crab - stayed at the campgrounds. We did great last weekend and ended up at the end of the day yesterday finally finding some decent sized crappie. People were pulling one after another out (mostly small ones) from under the hwy 13 bridges using a slip bobber and minnow. I only fish with jigs and on the way back to the boat ramp as the sun was starting to set, I started casting into the weeds and finally caught some of size. Also caught a lot of blue gill and white bass as well. We were using a black/chart curly tail with yellow nibbler and garlic spray and a beetle spin with same set up. Had an awesome weekend camping and crappie fishing.

Nice catch Jeff. I know I keep saying I gotta get to Crab, but I do need to get to Crab. I need something different than Kinkaid and Rend for a change.

Very few boats today. There were 4 trailers at the Greenbriar Ramp...probably a few at the other ones but noticed few people. 3 boats bass fishing for sure...i think 2 others crappie fishing...and those sail boats were out there again today in some sort of race. Last weekend the guy with the pink sail kicked everones butt...but he wasnt there today...so it was the best of the rest...kinda like a golf tournament without Tiger. Interesting Crisco caught crappie in the weeds. Never tried that pattern in the Fall. Im always lookin deep. Maybe I should give it a shot.

Crisco...you can pretty much sit under those 2 bridges on 13 and pull 7 inchers out all day next to the concrete supports. Those are the biggest community holes on the lake...which is why they only catch 7 inchers there LOL.

    Default Nice catch!!

Nice catch of Crappie there CarpPoop.
Even if I'm not catching any yet, just being out on the water makes the effort worth it. Not sure I'll be able to get out this week. School assignments coming due and Grandma needs some things taken care of, it's all good though.
Of all the places I've lived, the folks here are the nicest I've ever run across.
Keep the pictures coming, it's inspiring.
