    Default Pool 13 - 09/05/09 - SLOW

I took my wife over to Pool 13 for the day yesterday to see what was going on. The river is very dirty and 71 degrees. The flow was about 26k and surprising, there was more water than I thought there would be.

I had very few crappies, one nice bass, eight pound flat, and a three foot gar.

I'm hoping the temps drop steadily over the next few weeks, and they don't get much rain up north.

Everything caught yesterday was on chartruese Gypsi Jigs with a minnow, or a char. tube with a minnow. Black/white tubes are a staple over there, but didn't produce a sniff. Then again, there weren't many sniffs on anything...

It was still worth the 250 mile round trip!

    Jeff et al,

My usaul r/t trips are anywhere between 160 to Shelbyville (due to where we put in and no direct roads), to 320 to Rend (and that is with shortcuts) to over 400 when I head to the "real" southern Illinois to either Horseshoe or the like.

But never doubt for a moment if I feel if its worth it as just like you, "Heck ya!"

Yesterday, I left home at 3:20 AM to get to Columbia, IL to meet with friends to hunt Teal and Geese. Quit at 11:30 AM to only have the geese come in/by and then from 3 PM to 5 PM I went fishing and it seemed I couln't miss as whenever I threw my line out I got a bite. Albeit they were all Channel Catfish, Yellows or Carp, but I caught at least 10 of them on the same 1/2 worm!!! It was a fun, no make that a great time with my friend's four children (4 to 12 YOA) as I would let them reel in several to make sure all had a chance all the while their Dad, my host, was able to catch a quick nap in the truck!

Then I went and dove hunted till dark where I took nine doves from his field. Did NOT get home last night till 11:55 PM!!!

But go ahead and ask me if it was worth it!!!

    Heck ya!!!

Those rivers are hard to keep track of if there is a lot of rain up north. Still better fishn than workin.

Since dad can't keep tabs on the river for me much anymore, this is what I use to track what's going on.

This is very accurate and I look at the pools up river to see what's coming our way.
