August 25. Didn't have a guide trip so went down alone. Put in at Eagle and started out fishing a jig hadn't used one in so long as the fish are pounding minnows in coves but I had no pressure since I wasn't guiding. I went to my trusty Bighead jigs to probe the deep drop offs and I got into them and nice fish. I picked up my buddy we call Delmar, me and Jer do anyway. We then proceeded to catch four nice limits with almost all eleven or bigger and one about thirteen. Funniest thing though we only caught two fish under size all day. Jer said they must not be able to swim that deep. Fished the jig 14-20 feet deep all day. They just pound that quarter-ounce jig on the light braided line. I know that pattern is tough to do on weekends but hey the bigger fish are deep on any high clay bank with wood out in the 16-20 foot range. I will be out of town for a few weeks as I am running a Marriot Hotel job in Nebraska. Too bad as most of you that know me I like fishing deep. Big Ranger is loaded with electronic gadgets for just that purpose. Side imaging is the bomb on this pattern.
sounds as though you fellows had a big time!! be safe and have a good trip to Nebraska.
Steve,
What type of braid do you use and in what application,or all the time?

I use the Fireline Crystal 8/3. They say it disappears under water compared to other colors. Don't know but I do know I can see it and it is tough as can be. I tried the 6/2 and it broke way to easy so stay with 8/3 or slightly heavier. I use the 10 pound on the white bass. They can break the smaller line and I cast it so it wears the line down more. I tie it directly to jig no florocarbon leader. Fish don't seam to mind. I can snap my rod on those Bighead jigs since they don't have a big hook and free just about every snag I get. Fish the same jig all day usually.
I fish heavier test Power Pro and use a 6' fluorocarbon leader on my drop shot rigs. I like minnows but I reckon a jig would be easier. My side-imaging system pays off for me on the lake I fish. I like the deep timber/brush piles in deeper water. I get into a lot of channel catfish where I crappie fish, so I need line heavy enough to get them in.
Hey Steve sounds like you had a good day. Have a safe trip.

sounds like a fun tripe
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
Well glad to hear someone had some luck. I came and tried the mid coves at the standing timber with minnow 4 to 6 deep in 12 to 15 fow and caught a few under 9 inch crappie. Went to main lake looking for laydowns to mark for upcoming vacation and fished with minnows in 20 fow and again a few under 9 inch crappie.
There definitely is a lot of baitfish in the coves though. I got to get down there more often than I do to figure it all out.
Good luck with your job in Nebraska and good to hear you're healthy and back at it again.
