Ok. I just started fishing this lake and i have gotten a little frustraited lately. From this forum, it seems that most people who catch crappie usually catch black crappie. I think i have only caught one black crappie all summer. I have caught a few nice crappie but they are few and far between. I was out yesterday from 2pm till dark and caught probably 15 but only one that was decent size and no black crappie, all white.
This summer, I have been fishing in the deeper brush piles (10-15ft) on the north end of the lake. Occasionally i try some rip-rap but i only catch bass and bluegill. I only fish with jigs and tip them will a crappie nibble.
So my questions are: Why arent i catching some of these big black crappie that other people are? How are you fishing for them? Would i be better off fishing for black crappie than how i am now fishing? I am used to fishing Lake Shelbyville and this is the pattern i would use there, but it seems that white crappie are the more abundant type there.
Also, anyone want to share some GPS coordinates?
Thanks for all your help.

I have better success fishing near Hwy 154 on both sides and under the bridges mainly. Up off the bottom a bit as that is what crappie do, feed up above themselves.
Many good spots and my success is best with minnows with pink or red additions, bring chartruese is not too bad either.
Motor around and look for humps near the dam is also a good spot. Be prepared to take on a hefty catfish when under the bridges.
I love the place myself

God says he has plans for me.
Rend lake is mostly a white crappie lake do catch some blacks but mostly white. Kinkade and Egypt are the lakes with alot of big blacks.
Dont get aggrivated yet, fishing is alot tougher right now. I have been going but catching alot more small ones than the big ones. You can catch them by the bridges like hotpepper says, what I do is look for brush piles in 8 to 10 ft of water. This fall will be some of the good fishing. Minnows or crappie jigs work well. Try to match the bait fish and the water clarity. I have been catching alot on a salt and pepper color. Early in the morning and late in the evening seem to work best for me at this time. Just my 2 cents. Fall will be a free for all. I catch alot more whites than blacks at rend.

All right. I wont get too bent out of shape with not catching many yesterday. Thanks for all the input. I will assume that you are all writing PMs with the GPS coordinates.Dont worry i wont share.
You will be surprised on how many black crappie are caught from Rend. It just depends on what areas you are fishn. But for the most part Rend is mostly a white crappie lake. Fall fishn is some of the best fishn at Rend so don't give up yet. Sorry I worked to hard to give up my stake bed locations. But there is plenty of structure to fish in Rend. When I say plenty I mean plenty. I have never figured out why anyone would want to ski on that lake. If they only knew.
