New member to the board, but I have been reading the advice you guys give for a couple of months.
The fiance and I are looking to get away this week end and do some camping and fishing. Just wanted to see if anyone could recommend a spot within 3 hours of st. louis. I have a g3 with a 50 horse on it, and we were looking to camp on the water somewhere. Looking to catch some crappie and have a good time.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the advice.
we always camp at rend lake in wayne fitzgerall
can't catch'em at home
I am new here too but feel that the experts who recomend Rend or Crab are right on. I am particular to Rend as I hunt there with another member here who is King there as far as I concerned! However, Crab is a neat lake too...but I like Rend!
At Rend, the COE non-reserve areas had little to no vacancies during the last 3 weeks. Wayne Fitz has more open sites, but you be lucky to get one near the water. Also the rate doubles @ Fitz on weekends & holidays, $30 night. Noticed Crab has another loop open since storm debris removal but don't know about availability. Rend is about 3 or more ft above norm, Crab ain't.
Early to bed, early to rise,
Fish like hell, make up lies.
We always camp at Shelbyville in Lithia Springs campground... and look at the pics, crappie are biting!
You can go online and reserve at the COE campgrounds and they have a map that will give you a idea where they are in relation to the lake. We usually hit Gun Creek at Rend. Lots of spots normallly open off the lake a bit but there are 2 ramps real close.
