I thought Id post this link. My partner had a cicada blade bait on fishing for walleys on a hump...we were hooking fish pretty consistently...he gets a little one about 12 inches long and all of the sudden I hear every bad word in the book...i look up to the front of the boat and this little walleye is hooked by one set of trebles and the other set it buried in his finger. We really had no reasonable way to get medical attention so I took him to the cabin...called in my cousin on the 2 way radio...iced it down...gave him a few shots of Igor Vodka (must be canadian)...stuck a towel in his mouth and my cousin proceded to remove the hook the only way there is to do it when its this deep. Its kinda funny now...but then it was kinda stressful!

Been there, done that. Except I did it myself with no help. Cutting the barb is the only way I know to do it. At least you didn't have an emergency room bill.
If you haven't had a hook into you at one time or another, you haven't been fishin' much.![]()
Outch!!!!!
My dad did that once. But he had the emergency bill to go with it. Treble hooks are no fun in your hand. I stuck a large Jig hook for green carp fishing in my hand once. I couldn't get it out until I tried the old twist trick I use when get the "pig" off the "jig". It popped right out but it hurts pretty bad when twisting it.
Last Week, At Ky. Lake. Hooked A Small Largemouth On A Pop-r. Went To Un-hook Him And The Other Treble Hook Went Into The Web Of My Hand. Couldn't Reach For The Pliers Because I Had To Hold On To The Fish. My Brother In Law Held The Fish, While I Unhooked The Fish First(mistake) I Went To Throw The Fish Back And He Got Hooked On The Treble Hook Again. Hurt Like #@$%^# When He Started Flopping. Finally I Got Rid Of The Fish And Jerked The Hook Out Of My Hand. Hate Those Green Jumping Fish. Give Me A Crappie On A Jig Anytime
Here's a less painful way. I've use it on several occcasions and it works fine and almost painless that is besides the pain that is already there. Every one should practice it by sticking a hook into something like a ham with skin on it to get the feel. It's really as simple as it looks. Quick too. It also doesn't damage any more flesh as the "pass the barb thru method" does.

There is never any whiskey on my boat or any other alcohol. They should have put some of it on the wound. That method should work but it looks as painful as the remove the barb way. It is best not to get hooked in the first place but it happens.
wow...been there done that! No fun! When I was younger I was practice casting in my front yard and had a rattle trap tied on for some reason haha and it landed way way up in the tree. So I got my line tight and started to tug on it. It came out and right into my forhead. 2 sets of trebles right in my nogin! Good lesson!

Birdman sorry but I laughed so hard when I read that. I can just see it. LMAO
Actually if done right it doesnt hurt at all, well any more than it already dose.
I have used the method in the video from PawPaw Gene on myself and kept right on fishing. It is the method everyone should learn and as I have said on previous threads "PRACTICE IT ON A POTATOE BEFORE YOU HAVE TO USE IT". The alcohol on the boat isn't such a good idea though, that's what first aid kits are for. If you need bottled courage then stay out from behind the wheel of anything. Ferdi aka Fred
