    Default Thermocline

The thermocline is about 14 feet in the lake I fish, but keep in mind,
the thermocline is like a dinner plate in the lake and can tip different
directions depending on wind and other factors. You can usually see it
    on a good locater.

No thermocline in Rend or Crab according to DNR, too shaller. I did notice both lakes have turned over in last couple of weeks. Crab was goose schlitz green and had a lot of bottom crap floatin, Rend not so bad, yet.

The reason I asked is that my depth finder doesn't show the thermocline. But, I don't see many fish under 15', so I reckon that may be around there somewhere. From what I have read, there is no oxygen below the thermocline. The coldest water with the most oxygen is just above the thermocline. I have alway had good luck fishing where the thermocline hits the bottom this time of the year.

The lake I fish is deep and for the past 5 years, there was always oxygen and fish in at least 30' of water, and I never noticed the thermocline. This summer there is a definite thermocline and a total LACK of fish more than 12' deep now. It sucks because I normally fish for crappies 15-20 feet deep suspended in 30 feet of water. there is nothing there now.

On a locator it looks like clutter (in my lake around 14 feet). The clutter may
be photoplanktin (*sp) that won't go below the thermocline. If you've ever been swimming and felt a ribbon of cold water at your waist, knees, whatever, that is the thermocline.

Frank, Redtick i have been fishing shelby for the last month and a half. Have done really good from 12 to 16 ft. and have notice the thermocline at around 18ft. Mid lake. I have been taken my girlfriends 11 year old with and he is just having a blast catchin the crappie. Somedays he puts it on me so bad i have to put my tail between my legs and retreat..... But Frank this never happens to you does it!
