Not Crappie But Fun 2
Just to show you guys the first picture wasn't a fluke here are some more. I have had some real fun with kids the last two weekends. I had two boys last weekend that were only about fifty pounds a piece and boy did they struggle with the buffalo. It took both of them on the rod, one holding the end of the rod and one cranking the handle with both hands while I held the butt of the rod.
We are getting good numbers of white bass at daylight then switching over to the buffalo. This weekend however I have some good crappie located (shallow) and we will be doing that then at the end of the day getting them a buffalo a piece. It is always a good conversation piece for the ride back to Monticello.
Here is how I am catching the buffalo. First of all you need boat traffic to push the bait to the bottom. On weekdays I have had more trouble getting them since the bait is everywhere and up on top most of the day. I am using some areas over by Coalshaft bridge and an area just south of Findley bridge. Both are sharp drops. I am getting them in about twenty-four feet on bottom. I am putting the trolling motor on about twenty percent and parraleling the ledge and ripping the Bomber Slab Spoon and then a foot above it I tie on a treble hook dressed in white bucktail. This is the bait the buffalo hit most of the time. Some of the fish are snagged but still you must see bait on your screen. Get ready because if you are in a good school of bait you might get three rods to light up at the same time. Believe me it is a ball and most of the fish are twenty plus. Rookies and seasoned anglers are having a ball doing this with me. Like I said I am just doing it at the end of the day for a little extra excitement and it really works best from 1-4 in the afternoon anyway. Heat of the day. Sure glad things are getting back to normal as I bet most of you are too. Good luck out there.
