I go to some hunting dog events that are held at Mt Vernon and we hunt on Rend Lake. It looks like there would be great crappie and catfishing there. But, I live on a lake, Lake Shelbyville is just a short drive away, there is 3 local rivers I can fish, and I have access to several good ponds. So, I will likely stay close to home with the gas prices being what they are. The Big Muddy looks like flathead catfish heaven and should hold some crappie.
The crappie catch in the video clip is a typical catch all summer long except I usually do not catch quite as many, maybe about 10-15 a day. I actually crappie fish more than I catfish but I often catch both on my crappie poles. A 10 pound channel on a crappie pole is a lot of fun. I do have clips of many of my catches I made this summer.
I attended a beagle Field Trial yesterday and my hunting dog competition season is approaching, so I will start breaking some brush behind my dogs more and fish a little less. Of course, I will "cherry pick" some good days of Fall crappie fishing.
