Default New regs. on Shelbyville .

Just reading the new regs. for boats on Shelbyville regarding boats being tied together . It says all persons will wear a life vest unless they are below deck . There is more to the regs. than just this . Does this mean all boats or just the ones tied together ? I don't have a problem with wearing mine but I'm just trying to make sure I don't get a autograph from a Game Warden . Can anyone clear this up ?

See ya Kevin ><)))*>

Frank It was in our local paper yesterday . It went on to say no more than 5 boats can be tied together at a time [ they call these rafts ] . There has to be 150 feet between each raft . You can apply for a special permit to tie together more 5 boats and you are allowed only so many people per raft . There can be no more kegs or taps on these rafts . There can not be any music played over loud speakers or P.A. systems . . There was some other things in the paper also but I don't have it with me now .

You know how the old saying goes "A few people ruin it for everyone". I have never been there, but hopefullly for you guys this will be some rules they only enforce when people give the CPO's a hard time, or get stupid with other boaters.

Default Regs

Got a copy of the new regs and also contacted the COE. The regulation for wearing life vest applies only to those boats tied together in the "rafting" configuration.

The complete "News Release" from the COE was published 7/12 in the Shelby County News

Shelby County News

The regulation takes effect July 18th.

The fact that this applies to rafting does not mean that you won't be checked.

Hope this clears the question up.

Thanks Barry . They are going to have a tough time enforcing this . Some of those clowns I've seen over there are going to throw a fit . If they do I hope the Conservation Police throw the book at them . I was in The " Party Cove " a while back and it's a wonder more people haven't drowned or been hurt .

See ya Kevin ><)))*>

it looks like the vests only have to be worn if your getting a special use permit to me.

Pierson said that standard additional restrictions for this Special Use Permit will include the following:
-No alcoholic beverages in “kegs” or on tap.
-No public address/music systems.
-U.S. Coast Guard approved Type I, II, III, or V personal flotation devices must be worn at all times unless person is below deck or in an enclosed cabin.
-No more than four persons per vessel will be allowed for each additional vessel over five. For example, seven vessels in a raft would be limited to a total of 58 persons in the raft.
-Additional conditions may be required if warranted by the scope of the special use.

and these looks like the rules for up to 5 boats

He noted that, effective lake-wide on July 18, 2008, and thereafter:
-No more than five boats will be permitted to be tied together.
-No more than fifty people will be allowed on any raft of boats.
-No raft of boats will be permitted within 150 feet of another raft.
-For purposes of these regulations, a raft of boats is defined as two or more boats tied together.

so basiclaly if you have 5 or less boats tied together you dont need a vest and can have a keg is the way i read it... you only need vests and cant have kegs if your using a special permit for 6 or more boats
