Question Any Reports On Shelbyville?

The last reports I saw on Lake Shelbyville were awful, anyone got anything new to report? I haven't went in that direction lately to check on the conditions but, I may drive over that way to check things out. Can you put in at Coal Shaft? Allenville? I know the high water ramps are open.

The US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is reporting continuing high water conditions at the lake. The pool elevation crested on Sunday, June 15 at 616.05 eet above sea level. Normal summer pool level is 599.70. The discharge rate was 2,100 cubic feet per second (cfs) as of noon on June 18. Lake Shelbyville is expected to reach a pool elevation of 610.00 on or around July 24 and return to its normal summer pool level by mid-September. This is based on a normal precipitation pattern with average inflows.

You can not get a boat in at coalshaft water is covering entire parking and ramp. They have the gate closed, so I doubt you could even put in at allenville. I think the lake is at 615 as of today. Crappieken is right. Not back to normal pool til mid Sept.

if I went to a new lake and didn't know it was that high, what would I do? It is now summer. I would fish standing timber, floating marina docks, bridge pillars and drop-offs. and ABSOLUTELY no question about it. I would fish minnows. Find the fish with your electronics and fish just above them. The fish will also suspend in the middle of the coves and on the main lake. I would concentrate on the area between the 3 bridges, mostly because that is where I fish most of the time. It's not that hard. Ever fish at night? how many places have lights shining down on the water? lights=bugs=fish.got kids? EVERY ramp has a break line where the turn around meets the actual ramp. there is a boatload of fish waiting on a piece of nightcrawler in the evenings. have the kids wade out and cast to the top edge of the ramp. may have wait a little while until the water is shallow enough, but it won't be long. there is an eddy right above the dam when they are letting out a lot of water, that is stacked with fish. use your electronics, you will find it. As a matter of fact, we are staying at the cabin on Pana lake tonight and thats only 20 minutes away hmmm

Thanks. Actually, I have caught a couple of fish near my home, so, I don't think I will pull my boat to Shelbyville anytime soon with the gas being as high as it is. But, I wa wanting to hear if anyone was catching anything.

Here is my report for shelbyville...its HIGH and MUDDY and um um flooded ya thats the word lol. The water is still everywhere in the woods and the fish are stacked nowhere...mainly just cruising around. However, I have been maintaining a steady bite on mattoon. Just dont need any fishys right now so we have been releasing them all. But, if your wantin to catch some fish its a sure bet if you head out to toon lake you will catch some fish. Probably not big ones lol but you'll catch some. Fish size is way down this summer o well, im fishin!

I think I might be able to catch a crappie or 2 at Shelbyville but it is more trouble than it's worth to me. I know a couple of spots they will be, high water or not. As for Lake Mattoon, I live on it and only have to walk a few feet to get into my boat and fish. Whether or not I catch fish, I am not going to say. I think the lake gets too much pressure already, I don't want to attract folks that will be making more boat wakes than I already have to deal with daiiy. I have been on the lake with 45 miles of shoreline and only 2-3 boats on the water and I will be damned if they didn't have to fish right next to my boat. I have said some ugly words to some folks that don't have the brains God gave a goose.
Birdy, maybe you have posted too many pictures and someone is beating you to your spot just leaving you the dinks.
