Default Big Pond Yesterday

The last couple of days I found it slow mid lake to south end so I decided to go back to north end and I am glad that my slow spell mght be over. We had our limit very early all on brush from 8-15 feet deep. All these spots should hold up to the rains attempt of mudding up my fishing holes. Back on the white crappie, don't see as many blacks on the north end. All caught on red Bighead jigs or orange Reeves jigs and brown and chartreuse tubes. My favorite color in stained to muddy water. Coalshaft, Beckett's and RR bridge area, south side. Caught a few up by Wilborn boat ramp but the mud is coming into that area.

Next weeks weather should set the north end on fire so get out there. The cork bite will be back.

Steve - Thanks for the update. I fished the south end last Tuesday and found the bite to have slowed way down. Sat all day in the rain and found my rain suit leaked at a waist seam. Went up to Dick's in Champaign yesterday and bought a new one. Hope I won't need it need it next week as the ten day forecast looks like we might have sun most of the week. I just hope the wind isn't too bad.

Frank, Beckett's is the big basin to the southwest of the Coalshaft parking lot. Named after the farmer who owned all the land that was flooded in that area. Fishing standing timber but I know where tight groups of them are out in deep water. They are completely under water now. Since they aren't visible practically nobody has fished them in weeks. They will pop out at winter pool.

Tyler is right the deep bite is much better right now. The shallow is dirty and flooded.

I guess you need to be a local to get all the terminoligy down.

All Local Nickname Spots north of the Findley Bridge. I know I have left some out but this should qualify me as a local. I have caught fish in every one of these spots. How many of you know where all these are. XXL and Delmar don't count as I know they too are aware of all these spots.

Steve,

I fished Opossum to Eagle on Monday. Tough was the key word. I havent had that bad of day in a long time. I never found more than 2 fish in a spot and it was in 18ft + water everytime. The shallow bite was gone completely.

Orange/Chartreusse but as bad as it was, I dont think I am capable of saying any one color would outdo another. I can say that combination at least provided for fish where the other colors didnt even produce bites.

Hope things improve.

Roger

Joey, I would have to second that statement! Shelby is a great lake! But, as we all know Crappie USA and CrappieMasters go where the money is.... Sponsorship........ Decatur has a Super Event in 2010 I live in Decatur but i fish shebly more lots more... I really have to force myself to fish decatur.

I keep my eye out on Crappie U.S.A. on how you and Levi are doing. I will be back down to Kentucky Lake as soon as these guide trips quit coming in.

You are right it is to bad that Shelbyville isn't on anyone's radar for a tourney. We are blessed and condemned that there are no big towns close that can come up with the money to host a tourney. So they opt for Lake Decatur instead which is a town of 200,000 and can afford the 6500.00 fee to host a tourney. Lake Decatur isn't even in the same league as Shelbyville for a crappie lake and with the continued dredging and removing structure it will get even worse. Just my opinion as I am sure Decatur residents have their own opinion as well.
