Default New to the site

Hello from Connecticut. My name is Mike. I am new to the site and this is my first season of ice fishing with any regularity. I fish open water often for bass, but have really enjoyed jigging up panfish this winter. I don't have a lot of ice gear, but my 28" St. Croix rod with an ultra light reel spooled with 5 pound sunline has treated me well. I use a Gitzit 1/32 ounce Micro Tough Guy tipped with a wax worm. The Vexilar FL-18 has been a great help, and my friend Neal is a great teacher. Here are a few photos from my trips including a new personal best Crappie caught this morning. I look forward to learning more from all of you. Thanks.

Mike

My first crappie thru the ice last week:

My first Largemouth jigging thru the ice:

Today's beast caught in 18' of water. Released right after the photo.

wow I would say that was a beast. WTG husky, some very fine fish on the ice. looks like you'll be busy thru the winter now on the ice and get out there on the open water for some of those huge fat smallies.

Welcome to crappie.com husky.

Oh my ,That's a true mule.
How long was it?
I'm getting to that time where I can find a few of them.
I about fell outta my chair when I saw that one.
Not many folks have them dandies around.
I need a drool rag!

Keith,

She measured over 17" and was beautiful in person. I'm glad that I released her, hope she can thrill me or someone else in the future.

That's 1 heck of a breeder Mike.
It's a true sportsman that does what you did!
In my book anything over 14" goes back.
