A camera doesn't show you the whole water column as a flasher does. The fish may be suspended in the column and the camera will only show you whats in front of it, not above or below, as the flasher will. I have both. I wont leave home without my vex but only take the camera a few times a year. If the camera works for you, by all means, use it. The guys i fish with and around prefer the vex tho.
