I think I will get the Phantom 1000X and not worry about the scope. Altho my fishing partner Wayne is big into rifles, not air rifles, and may be able to do something with the scope. For what I will be using it for seems to be fine. Crosman site says it is an updated type break barrel so maybe it will be pretty accurate. Have not seen any users reviews so far but the folk on WM site seem to like the Crosman rifles. Any recommendations on pellets from anyone who has that rifle? Thanks.

Bullfrog-1 is right, you can scope the Benj but finding the scope mounts is a pain now. Some of the new Benj have groves to mount the rings in but most of the old mounts fit forward on the barrel and if you don't have a Benj why go to the trouble. The gun you are thinking of buying has a package that has the airgun scope with it for very little more money and I would recommend buying it.
Happy shooting,
Bill
You fellows check this link out for any kinda air gun a fellows wallet can afford..Airguns of Arizona - Precision Air Rifles, Pistols, Pellets
I PRACTICE CATCH & FRY---DONT EVERYBODY ?
Good link, went over and looked. Been awhile since I ordered from them.
That made me go to my favorite site that I hadn't visited for quite a while.
Air guns - BB Guns - Pellet guns - Air rifles - Crosman - Gamo - Daisy - Beeman - PyramydAir.com
to see what they had new. Darn, all sorts of stuff, like now Ruger is building airguns. Pyramyd has a newspaper that you can flip to and read online plus a article a day by Tom Gaylord. Went to spend a few minutes and spent over a hour. I am not a daily shooter of airguns as some are on the yellowforum.com but sure is interesting reading once ever so often
and it is getting toward the hunting season so any practice I get is worth it.
Here is what i use ta plink with,, does a nice job and a pain in the rear ta fill..
its a
SUMATRA 2500 .20 cal. pcp long version,,
this actual gun is a craftsman gun,, meaning it was hand made by the Korean man that actually came up with the design after seeing the 707's.. its 7 years old and the velocity level is far better on this air gun than the ones you can buy online from several reputable dealers...
JAKE
chrono was 1462 fps and sounds like a 22LR bullet when ya pull the trigger
but fer $975. it better shoot fast,, the versions that you can buy on internet will cost ya around $500.

I PRACTICE CATCH & FRY---DONT EVERYBODY ?
I'm interested in getting a used airgun for some plinking but haven't owned one in near 50 years. What's the main feature(s) to look for to know it's a pretty good gun and not something I'll want to throw in the lake?
they got a real nice benjamen on gun broker .com...........thats the old model that is so very accurate.
I PRACTICE CATCH & FRY---DONT EVERYBODY ?
Well I changed my mind, we have a local gun dealer and I went by and he had a Benjamin 392(22 cal) in stock and I fell in love with it so I'm having him order me a 397(177 cal). It seems like a very nice gun, heavy, must be all metal and wood. Now has anyone got any advice for me as far as ammo etc., has anyone put a scope on it or is that a waste of money as it only 800 fps?
