I bought my son one and it shoots good. It has a loud bark with the short barrel like it has. Not the prettiest or best gun on the market, but for what your looking for it would work well.
I really don't care for the Mossburg in any caliber. It is without question the least desirable production gun out . But I hate to say they will or can be made to shoot exceptionally good. I have put several together that will shoot less than .5 min of angle. That is good for any production gun. The Remington is by far a superior gun . If you can get a SS Remington for that price you should jump on it. Any production gun that you purchase most likely will not shoot 1 in. without bedding and a trigger job.
Went with the Savage Edge. Just picked it up a few minutes ago. I will let you know in a few days if I am happy with my decision.

That is all that matters.
All in all I am happy with the gun, other that the 50 lb trigger pull. I will work on this and try and get it better. I dont want the trigger that hadr to pull for a kid but do not want it to sensitive. Wish I would have went with the youth model (for the shorter stock). Guess I will try to order a seperate staock and keep the one I have for later.

That Remington that you are talking about is twice the gun as the Mossberg.
"Garden Hackler"lol
Yeah, I missed out on the Remington 700 so I settled. Once I get the trigger adjusted I will be happy though.

243 great round
Scott, that savage has an accu-trigger. They are very easily adjustable. Just turn the screw with the supplied allen wrench.
I stay ready....... To keep from having to get ready....![]()
