    Default Big Rub

I was cuttin' some cedars down on our other farm today where I had beeing seeing a bachelor group of 4 big bucks, seven bucks altogether this year and last and found this rub this morning as I was dumping some shelled corn out by a scrape about 15 yrds from the rub. My dad and I took pictures cuz it was the biggest rub we had ever seen and we have deer hunted a LOT. Makes me wonder how big this dude is, I jumped a nice big typical there last week that I think is the one making this rub, he looks to be better than 140-150 inch deer, but the deer that made this rub might be bigger than that id say, sad thing is im not hunting this farm either, Ive got my stands and everything on the other farm where Ive been after a biggun for the last 3 yrs, and he is a worth spending time on, yrs for that matter. Here is the rub. I know rubs arent exactly indicative of deer size, but small bucks dont rub BIG trees at all, especially a few big trees in one area. Making me second guess my hunting spot, but I have vowed not to change.

Good lands that's a big rub! Have you guys got any trail cams in the area? You've got some major discipline knowing there is a monster in those woods and choosing not to hunt him. I hope you get the opportunity to take the big guy on your other farm.

Have you had any luck this season so far?

Na man, its not that I didnt want to hunt him, I didnt know about the deer til after muzzleloader season. Since then I've just been working on pinning it down for like two weeks, been watchin a lot too. I put out a lot of mineral/protein blocks and corn the past couple weeks too. I did have a game cam, but it wasnt digital and was a PIA, so I gave it away. It would be the best investment in the world for me, and find the big deer there to boot. Opening of rifle season is this weekend, so I been doin every thing I can to make things go right during rifle season. Ive seen a couple nice ones so far, the deer this year have big racks cuz of all the rain and mast. Starting to rut here lately even. I would have a hard time shootin at him with a bow for fear of makin a bad shot and then not have a chance at rifle season. I havent been hunting yet this year though, got my liscense but no tags even at the moment. Can't wait for this weekend tho, even tho its gonna be in the 60's.

PS: Yankee....he will probably be here still after season so come on down..

Hunt that deer from the ground. Slip into the woods early and sit on the ground. You can kill that . He has had no pressure on him. Dont put any stands up. You might spook him.

That is a big rub... only place I seen some like that personally is over at a federal refuge that we muzzleload hunt. There were about 20 trees that looked like that and naturally they were in a bow hunting only area of the refuge. Good luck on your season. If you get that big one you after, show us some pics.

I watched this one for two months on camera and got him the second Saturday of late muzzleloader. It is actually the first one I ever got with the muzzleloader.
