    Default Bow vibration dampeners

i have a compound bow that i was given and im noticing that when it shoots it makes a lot of noise. looking at the stuff in a store they have the limb saver ones that stick onto the bow near the cams. they also had stabilizers by limb saver that said they dampen vibrations. looking at only getting one thing to try for now, which would work better?

Stabilizer would be the first item. Anything that you add to the limbs will cost you speed. If you dont have a fast bow already they will eat you up. If you can get your speed up to 297 or better it wont matter about the noise. At 20 yards a deer cant react fast enough to duck 297. That has been calculated out by MR Fred Bear.

Before adding stuff to your bow, give it a good once over. Take a little 3-in-one oil or equivilent, and oil all your moving parts.

Next, wax your arrlow shafts. This gives better penetration and makes for a quieter draw and release.

Next, if you have a bow-mounted quiver, get one that will detach when shooting. These things are a major headache for me. I have a detachable quiver and that makes me happy. It really quietens down the bow and reduces weight when drawing back.

Finally, check each component that it is tight. If you have string supressors, make sure they're in good shape and doing their job. Like four hook said, "anything added to your limbs will cost you precious speed." Actually if it's mounted on your string it REALLY costs you. So, do away with any non-essential 'stuff' on your string. I have a peep sight and that's it.

So oil those cams w/ WD-40 or something else WAY before the season sos the smell will not give you away.

If, after all this, you still have a noisy bow, take it to the shop and let someone with a lot knowledge evaluate it for you. Maybe a stabilizer should be your next purchase. If you go to a shop, chances are you will be allowed to try it on the range before you buy it.

    Hope this helps.
