I started checking into them and my LGS told me typical wait time for application approval is 15 to 18 months. Aint shelling out that much money to wait that long to play with them.

I sold them for 4 years, just closed the business.
For your 9mm, buy a 45, then you can use it with both 45 and 9, unless, you will never own, or want to own, a 45.
Similar mindset on your AR15, buy a 30, use it for everything 30 and smaller.
A good dealer should explain all of this, and quote you numbers to help you understand.
Your best deals will be through Silencer Shop.com, select a Mississippi dealer for the transfer, then forget it for about 12 months.
The ones that enjoy a silencer the most, 22 caliber, it takes out enough of the noise (it's not silent) to allow you to truly enjoy plinking, and target shooting, or teaching a youngester to shoot.
Your AR15, through a 30 caliber, or even a 556 can, is far from quiet, the downrange bullet noise from velocity greater than 1100fps ( greater than subsonic) is still fairly loud, will be hearing safe, but it's still noise.

There are many good ones, Silencerco, Gemtech, Innovative Arms, just look at Silencer Shop.com, all they sell are good, just your personal preference
