    Default New Rifle build

Boats broke down and it's been to cold and windy to fish. So all this down time not doing anything, has got me going crazy. So here I am sulking and feeling sorry for myself so I decide get in the old gun safe and closet. Clean some firearms. Go thru all my hunting gear, get rid of what I dont need any more, beings I no long care about deer huntin.

So as I'm going thru the closet I come across my old back pack with all my coyote calls. I used to live my life around coyote huntin, loved it, had to have it, every night.......kinda like you know?...... sleep. But like many things, kids and work took over. That's been 25 years ago.

Next comes the gun safe. The entire time I'm cleaning guns I'm thinking about coyote huntin. Not only do I have the itch again, it's already turned into a rash! I've cleaned the shotguns, the pistols and now working on the rifles. I've got four 22lrs, 7mm Rem Mag, couple .308s, and a few others. But I no longer have a "coyote" gun!

Later that nite I'm setting around watching tv, playing on the internet looking at varmint rifles when it dawns on me....."What did I do with that old Savage 270?" It was my old truck gun. No blueing left on it at all. It had fallen out of the truck and broke the stock off. So instead off fixing it, I retired it. That must of been 15 years ago.

Now the search begins. I know I didnt throw it away. After a short search I find it in the cellar, covered in dust and rust. The bolt won't even budge. Off to shed I go, srayed the whole thing down with PB Blaster, lean it up against the wall and fill the barrel with PB as well.

Next morning I finally get the bolt to turn but still won't budge. But with a little persuasion with a hammer and wood dowel it's out! I strip it down to tiny little pieces, clean it all up and put it all back together. Works like a new rifle! Now what to do with it?

I knew I wanted a "somewhat" varmint rifle, not a 270, so I order a new barrel. I remember a few years back my neighbor put a new Boyds stock on a Savage 110, so I give him a call. Score! Free stock! While digging thru the closet I came across a NIB Redfield Revolution scope that got for Xmas a few years ago and a set of rings.

A little elbow grease cleaning up an old girl, slap on a litle makeup and here she is......... not the prettiest thing in the world but she should work.

FoxPro on the way and then I'm back in business!

I hope so. I'm a heavy smoker asnd tried to blow a few calls and nearly passed out. Fox pro sounds easier than quitting smoking and exercise.

I don't have a Savage but from everything I read, it is the most under appreciated rifle on the market. They seem to shoot very good but don't get the hype of some other brands. Good luck with your endeavor.

Yes sir! My wife shots a .243 She's dropped a lot of 250-350 lbs hogs with it. 100gr Winchester ballistic tips hit hard.
