I bought a S&W 22A a few years ago and learned that to take it apart I had to go get a gallon Zip-Lock bag and put it in it to take the slide off the frame. That way I could find the recoil buffer and spring when they zinged out. Look under the foam in the case that the pistol came in - there is a small paper envelope with 3 replacement buffers in it. S&W knew that folks were going to lose them when cleaning their weapons. BTW: I traded it for something else after about two of those things flying around the shop.

I've contacted s&w, they said to send the weapon in to them. Shipping free. I'm not sure how much I want to spend on it though.
