Default where to find crappie near Savannah?

Going into my first spring since moving down from north of Atlanta to work at Ft Stewart and just bought my fishing permit for base. Does anyone know where the best ponds on base for crappie are?

Also, I'm willing to drive an hour of Savannah to find good crappie waters so if you know of any please share. I'm so ready for crappie I can hardy wait for the weekends

I lived in Richmond Hill/Savannah for 25 years (I now live in North Ga) and fished Fort Stewart many times if your looking for Crappie the best pond is 28. The problem is that it is only open only a few days a year. Your best bet is to fish the rivers (Conoochee and Ogeechee River) for red breast starting now until the first of June. I have one warning for you, SAND GNATS. Fishing from the bank on ponds or rivers they will carry you away. If you are in a boat they are bad but you will be able to stand it. Good Luck

and i have to agree with blackcloud. with these darn sand gants it will be buffet time when the wind dont blow. but do not leave home with out your thermacell at least that is some defence against them.
