i caught a few fish saturday that had big eggs in them that looked like to me they were getting ready to bed .is this normal for january.they were in 30ft water holding at about 20ft.anybody got any info.
alot of the the crappie this time of year already have eggs. They'll carry them untill the water temps warm up enough to bed.
Just look at the eggs... if they look like a bag of BBs that you could easily seperate from each other, they are close to bedding. This time of the year all you'll see is a bag of creme tators. The last fish I caught on Oconee in the 2nd week December had eggs in them too.

Most of the fish we caught at West Point on January 9th were full of eggs also.
thanks for the feed back,i forgot to say that i was on blackshear but it looks like they are doing samething on all the lakes and ponds also,i saw some yesterday that came from a pond and they were the same....thanks again..be safe
THOSE EGGS ARE A FACTOR IN THE WEIGHTS OF FISH DURING THE WINTER. tHAT IS WHY SOME OF THE HEAVIEST FISH ARE LANDED IN THE WINTER AND EARLY SPRING. tHEY ARE GOURGING TO SUPPORT THOSE EGGS AND THE EGGS THEMSELVES ADD WEIGHT
A good indication that they are ready or real close to laying the eggs, is the size and darkness of the blood veins around the eggs. Those veins will get larger and a dark red.
