    Default Minn Kota vs Motorguide

Trollers- Why is it that the vast majority of the autopilots I have seen on Talquin are Minn Kotas? Are they that much better? Is it an apple to apple comparison or just a personal name brand preference? Investing that much money (700 - 1600 dollars) in a motor has got to be a decision from performance, doesn't it?
    Thanks in advance

Doug, before I bought mine, I gave it alot of thought and asked alot of questions. These trolling motors aren't perfect and some people have had their problems in the earlier years of the Auto Pilot but it seems that Minn Kota has stepped up to the plate and manufactures a quality product. I paid $645 for mine last January and I thought that was an Ungodly price but I bit the bullet and bought one. I have had no problems with it whatsoever and I will never troll without one again. The reputation helped me make up my mind to buy Minn Kota, but seeing Minn Kota on everyboat that I saw speaks for itself. After talking with the owners and seeing just how much more fishing I could do and actually enjoy catching fish without worrying about the trolling motor taking my boat into a 360 degree spin is worth every penny!!!! I highly recommend The Minn Kota Power Drive V2 with Auto pilot...I think my next one will be the one with the universal sonar on it.

Honestly the more I look at the Motorguide Wireless Digital the more I like it. The price is very attractive.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Minn Kota Auto pilot and the Co-pilot remote. Since going away from the Motor Guide foot control I have enjoyed trolling a lot more and have more time to concentrate on what the fish want that day instead of going around in circles if I get hung up. I do not know anything about the new Motor Guide Wireless but I never had any quality issues from either brand.

I am partial to Minn Kota now that I have used the PD V2 w/AP & US2. The AP is amazing. I can walk to the back of the boat and net a fish for my partner or anything else I need to do without worrying about the boat. I got a once in a life time deal on mine or I wouldn't have it yet. But thankfull I do.

As for Motorguide, thats all I used before. I loved them too until the Minn Kota. Since Motorguide is playing catch up, I might give them a year or two more to get all the kinks out.

You aint trollin unless you trollin with auto pilot. Dont think motorguide has auto pilot so I wouldn't waste a penny on anything they have.

Response time, control, stowing and deploying the motor. I did not feel it ran as strong as my old Maxium 60.

Now if all I did was long line I could see where it might be an advantage.

But I am more of a run and gun, tight line brush, chase tops, I just didn't feel in control of the boat.
