    Default "died" at Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain beat me up again...
Since it's only 15 minutes to the ramp from my house, it's hard to leave this place alone...and there are good fish in it. Traditionally, the crappies dont get going good over there until you start seeing some green on the bushes..and the copperheads are sunning on the rocks.(no green on the bushes yet and no snakes)
Went yesterday, Monday, 3/3.. Temps..surface at lower end 56 degrees...in upper end 58 degrees. Water color slightly stained.
Wind condition..."GARGANTUAN GUSTS, WHITECAPS, HORRIBLE BOAT CONTROL" all day...until almost dark. Just terrible. (hat blowing off into water, line wont remain still to tie a knot, you "throw over there and the wind blows the lure back over here right into the bushes and gets hung up, glasses get blown into a pile of rods in boat and "vanish", electric motor has to be run on max speed, etc etc etc.)
Could see tons of crappies on the screen, holding down in 8-9 feet, even in the shallow 12 foot channels in the upper lakes. Would NOT hit anything...minnows, jigs, you name it. Drop shotted right in the center of them..no takers.
Started chunking to fallen trees and cover for stragglers and about 2 pm hit five crappies in a row off one tree...each one weighed out at 1 pound. Caught on shad colored plastic rigged on 1/32 head. Interesting aspect was they hit like bass..no fooling around. WHAM! and drag starts squealing.
It got worse from there as the wind demons unleashed their furies on me for daring to challenge their supremacy by sticking with it. It comes from the south and you get out of it..and then it comes around corners and starts coming from the north...you go back to original plan and it changes back and pounds you some more. I swear it came from all 4 directions at the same time once.
Finally lowered myself to bass fishing and got 2 @4 lbs. each on a wacky rigged worm. (wonder why I used to think catching bass was all that great? Wasted 30 years messing with those things)
    And the wind kept blowing.
Tried trolling...and the wind kept blowing.
Watched trees breaking off and falling into the water...and the wind kept blowing.
At 5PM wife phoned and says.."have you lost your mind, I've got meat loaf, corn on the cob, cole slaw, roasted sweet potatoes, and hot biscuits ready for dinner...get outta there".
Guess how long it took me to make a speed dash to the ramp, load up, and get to the house?
To be continued after next trip.

Well you can't say you didn't try. Just think how it will be when the trees are green and the cottonmouths are sunning. Keep after them DB it'll get better.
    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

Wow it seems like you had a very rough day with that wind. My back will no longer let me fish any strong wind. Sounds like that lake is a super crappie lake. I just might have to get in touch with you and come go fishing with you soon.

    Hey Dr. Bush,
I believe your vicks on the bottom of the feet works. I cant believe it but yesterday I felt terrible, like I was coming down with the flu. Ached a little, throat scratchy, all the symptoms everyone has had before it really hits them. I got up this morning felt pretty bad, coated my feet again, jumped in the car and drove to Knoxville for a meeting. Low an behold on the way home i started feeling better. Plus nobody in the meeting had a stopped up nose! I did get some crazy looks though. When I told them what it was they really looked at me crazy. I'm home now with feet coated again, maybe it will be gone by tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
