Oconee 3/1 - 3/2
The weekend can be summed up in one word "TOUGH". Only 1 minnow bite pushing a drop shot about 5ft, everything was on jigs, some tight, some under cork. Kalin Popsicle, Acid Rain, John Deere, and Jiffy Jig Red/Yellow/Brown were best, but didn't catch enough to set a decent pattern. Seemed they wanted the bright colors about 3-4 on Minn Kota 55PD. Forgot my GPS.
Saturday the wind was bad you had to be in bad need of a "fishing fix". Yep that was me. Didn't put in til mid morning and WT 51 went up to 54.
Went to Double Branches, Nothing. Wanted to go to backup plan, but, a boat was already working my drop shot hole and it would make you sea sick to sit with the white caps rolling.
Went to Sandy Creek and got out of the wind and a dozen boats were dragging a 100 lines (maybe a few more), so we added our 16. Finally caught 6 big crappie in the 2lb bracket, no dinks at all. All the fish that I saw caught were big. Caught 5 of them big mouth fish, kept 3 over the 14 slot and all on 4lb test with long rods, that is fun.
Sunday weather was beautiful witht the water slick as glass. WT 53 to 56 at 2pm. Hit Sanday again and only 3 boats there, the others must have been blown out of the lake on Saturday. Caught one fish, big mouth. Went to Rocky (no one there but us) and caught 8 before you could get all the poles out. Just knew we had found them. Shut off just like a switch and could not buy a bite. So we thanked the Lord for those and headed out.
All the fish are big and were about half males and females in the batch.
Only thing I can tell you is go fishing and when they start it is going to be something to remember.

glad to see you got a little "fix" even though the weather didn't help out. those big fish make up for the bad weather days. thanks for the report. by the looks of the last couple posts everyone that wasn't at the Slabfest was either at oconee or the hill and most caught fish. hope to see you up there soon.

Thanks for the report. I was wondering how that side the lake was doing.

I just looked at the slide show you had posted from BS. Looked like you all had a lot of fun. I have got to one with you all when work stops getting in the way of fishing.
Forgot to tell you all that some of my neighbors went night fishing Saturday night on Richland creek side and had around 30 nice fish by 11pm when they finally surrender to the weather.

Fished Appalachee Sat from about 2 to 5 o'clock from Swords on up about a half mile to big cove on left. Wind tough, waves, etc. Finally caught one decent crappie long line trolling over the channel. Only fish came on road runner, nothing on 1/48, 1/32, 1/16 jig, and later a 1/8 oz jig. Was more of a first trip shake down for boat. Son and friend had to anchor in first cove up from Blue Springs after his big motor choked up, could not keep it running -- believes carb needs cleaning/rebuilding. Anchored and caught 8 or 10 with 6 keepers and 2 catfish. Water still stained and cold. Weather report looks like may be that way for a while. Jim
