    Default Slabfest Tournament Changes

During Slabfest this weekend there was alot of discussion concerning a pay tournamment vs a bragging rights tournament. It was decided that any future Slabfest events (beginning with the next event at Harding) will be for BRAGGING RIGHTS ONLY. We will still have the big fish event and an entry fee will be charged with a 100% payout for the top three finishes. The big fish entry will be strickly voluntary.

We also discussed the posibility of have small plagues made up for the top three finishes and having a trophy at the end of the year for Angler of the Year. Need some ideas of how to determine AOTY. The only issue with this would be paying for the plagues and trophy.

This weekends event was really great and I met alot of new friends. It is my hope that not only do these events continue but that they get better each time. Our love for fishing has spilled over to a love for each other. I want to thank my friend FalconSmitty aka CrappieGuy for spanning this idea. I know you must be proud of how it has grown over the years.
    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

Birddog 1st off it was a pleasure to meet ya , I will support it whichever way it is decided. Maybe a vote for aoty or something I guess? Also what if we got a kids Plaque or trophy and start to getting more kids involved ,as my grandsons will be ready in the coming years.

I would say a vote at the end of the year would be the best way to go to decide the angler of the year. Let the board officers, Smitty, Papa Sage, Birddog and Shine Runner be the ones to nominate and the full membership vote on the angler of the year. Smitty, your dream lives and is getting bigger and better. Thank you brother.

This will make Slabfest even better. It takes money for us all to attend these events. Gas and lodging cost. Plus all the other expenses for a trip. This is another reason to ask that we make the big fish pot only $10 per TEAM(boat) this past fest I know of 1 boat that had to pay 65 bucks for the big fish and tourney. Because they had children fishing with them. Not fair but was to late to change anything right before the tourney. This is my fault for not seeing it coming. I would also like to ask if we not have a limit on team members in boat if they are a family or the number of poles. This doesn't mean cousins, aunts and uncles mbo I can just see a pontoon with a dozen kin floating around with 40 poles out. Well see that might even stop a child that is a cousin or friend from fishing so we need to say 12under kids are exempt.. Kids love to take a friend. and we sure don't want to leave out gandpaw or maw. He hasn't yet and I don't understand why, but Rusty's dad might want to fish with Ragfly and ms Brenda or any other situation. should we just say get yer team, float them and weigh in what yall catch...I think so.

Trophies, plaques awards can be cheap. I mean small is better for price and space once you get it home. as for the kids yes do the top 3 big fish with trophies but someone with a good program can print us some awards to give out to EACH child that fishes with us.

well i have been thinking about this for a few days and i know i have allways wanted to but work and so on i havent been to a slabfest tournament as of yet.but heres my 2cents on the change <even tho what i think dont matter>

first it kills me that grown men cant act there age about a few bucks and to tell you the truth if its the same person every event or group just ask them not to come. there just hurting something that was sapost to be good

2nd the tournament is what got poeple showing up in the first place. but once they came what came out of it well friendships/fellowship and hey maybe even the good word reaching a heart who needed it.

now i know from years of reading theses bourds for so meany years that slabfest was sapost to be a good thing where crappie.com member could meet and take a online friendship and turn it into a real ones.where you could take your famly for a weekend and didnt have to worry about what was goin to be said or drinking.

so with all that being said if you want or think that the money is hurting theses events then by all means do it for bragging rights. but if thats what yuor goin to do. heres something to think about how about yuo still have the $ per person/ boat go buy the 3 trophies. find some great poeple who would donate some prizes and the rest of the cash go's to a church or another charity. pick one and just think how much slabfest would realy help poeple then
if you did this i for one would put my cash in even if i wasnt goin to be there

    your friend
