I'm sure most of you read my post a couple of weeks ago where my GPS unit quit working right. I kept getting an error message saying GPS unit not responding. This wasn't the first time but the second. I had already sent it back to Eagle for repair once before. I just got the unit back from Eagle yesterday for the second time. When I hooked the unit up to my boat a few minutes ago I find that the gps is bouncing all over the place. My boat is sitting still in my driveway and the GPS is bouncing over a 100' perimeter. What's so bad is this isn't even my original unit. Eagle sent my another unit that I'm guessing has been reconditioned. My question is is this a common problem with these units? I sure wished I could get my money back for this thing and invest that $400.00 in something different. I've always heard Eagle/Lowrance were alot better than Hummingbird and Garmin but now I'm not such a believer. Hate to vent on you all but I'm just having to get this off my chest.
To heck with work, lets go fishing.
Did you replace everything? or just the unit. I dont know of anyone that has had trouble with the 480, it is still one of the best ever on the market in its price range. Maybe it is the power souce surging or something causing it fluctuate or something??? Maybe a bad antenna module?
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
This last time Eagle sent a reconditioned antenna to go with it. I have switched from my trolling batteries to my starting battery. Same problem.

I'd box it right back up & send it back with a nasty gram. I'm parcial to the bird myself.

If it's not taken care of by Slabfest, I'm going to have to invest in SOMETHING different. I just bought the new Navionics chip yesterday cause it's got Blackshear in it now.

I've always found Eagle/Lowrance eager to please. I think this is that once in awhile "problem child" so try not to get too put off. I would be firm with them, tell them you are very upset but be reasonable. Add a little "BS" like missing tournaments/opportunities to fish... You may be surprised what they will do for you with a firm but polite "nudge". be sure and praise their products and how you would hate to switch brands but you will...
Politics my friend politics!!!...LOL!!

Unfortunatly, they're not open today. I was really looking forward to trying it out on Sinclair tomorrow. I'm half tempted to sell it on ebay. I just have a problem selling something that I know isn't up to par.Originally Posted by SUNDROP

Wes, Sundrop is right. Be frim and fair and give them some praise but let them know that you are not satisfies with their service or product at this time. You may really be surprised at the outcome. I had a Smith & Wesson 9mm I used while in law enforcement. had problems with jams and firing pins. I sent it back 3 different times and would have problems again. They were pronpt in sending me a loaner while they had mine. After the 3rd trip back they sent me a brand new weapon and a nice letter of apology. Which was nice. Then several days layer I got a package UPS from them, had a cleaning kit, a new holster, gift cetificate for 2 boxes or ammo, several patches and decals and a cap. What a complete shock. I still use Smith & Wesson.

CATCH FILLET
That part about the tournament seems to work. When I called Minkota about the problem that I had with my Terrova they were taking the standard approach until I told them that it quit at Talquin while I was fishing the crappiemaster tournament, things got better then. I told them that it had gone back to working and I couldn't get it to quit again. Their response was, take it to the nearest service center and have it checked and they would extend my warranty for 12 months.Originally Posted by SUNDROP
