Default Need some help here..T/M ?

Okay, I bought a Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 55 lb thrust last week, was was getting ready to install it today and the instructions said I needed to make sure I had 6 gauge wire and a 60 amp manual reset circut braker.

I am sure I have 6 gauge wire that came with the original factory T/M, my question is do I need the circut breaker? The factory T/M is a 40lb thrust tracker, since I am upgrading to 55lb will it cause any problems as in overload and blowing the 20 amp fuse that is wired in the T/M wiring.

Or should I just box it back up and exchange it for the same model but in 40lb thrust? thrust isn't that big of an issue, I just want the varible speed.

    Thanks.

With the 20 amp you may blow the fuse everytime you engage from off to full thrust because of the sudden load. A manual breaker is easy to install and inexpensive and once you try the 55 you won't want to go back to a 40!
Make sure your wire is the proper guage or you'll fry it all!!

Hiya Sundrop...I just installed the same motor on my boat last week. Several of the "Old Timers" that use these motors say to take the circuit breaker and tape a quarter to it and throw it in the lake...I have heard people talking about the problems they have had using the circuit breaker.....I did put one on mine simply because the factory said to, but I will wait and see if I have any problems with mine....You are gonna love the 55 lb thrust...Does yours have Auto Pilot?

    Thanks ya'll

I am going to give it a go without the breaker. I am pretty sure I have the proper size wire. No it doesn't have the A/P but is upgradable to the copilot which I am going to get at a later date.

Breaker is also to satisfy your warranty. If you can show you have it, you have ground to stand on if there is a problem with the motor.
