I watched a show on HIST or DISC about Georgia that was very interesting & informative. The series is called The States and each episode features 4 or 5 states at random. I have been thru GA quite a few times but always just travelin thru. I have been to most all the major cities, coastal communities,
etc.., crisscrossed the state but just never spent any time there. Anyway it had some interesting statistical info-size, pop., history, agriculture. Do you guys know that even though you are known as the peach state you rank 3rd
nationally behind CA & SC.
I knew of Stone Mt but did not know about the carving of Rob't E Lee,
Boss Hogg, & Jethro Tull.
One subject that was not covered was the fishing capabilities of Georgians
as compared to the residents of neighboring states. But it was mentioned in passing without being squarely addressed, which in my opinion left alot open to speculation.
Sincerely,

I was born in Waynesboro which is in Burke county and we had a saying, live in the biggest city in the biggest county in the biggest state east of the Mossissippi, don't know if its true or not but believe it is true. Waynesboro is/was a pretty small town, don't know the population back in the 50's when I left to join the Navy, have been back a couple of times in the last few years and it still doesn't seem that large now, no family left there.

Hello horseshoer. I am from Georgia and I can truthfully tell you that the crappie fishing here in Georgia is some of the best there is anywhere. The state record for white crappie is 5lbs even that was cought back in 1984 by a lady fishing from the bank of a small lake. We have several lakes in the state that produce slabs on a constant basis. If you are ever down in the south Gerogia area please get in touch with me and I will be glad to take you out on a fishing trip.
I work at StoneMountain Park in a part time job to supplement retirement. Have been there 4 years, drove the Duck Boats and now drive the Courtesy Shuttle Bus.
You gotta be kidding about that carving on it. BossHogg?????
The guys are Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson.
When we were kids here in Atlanta, there was no park there. Just the mountain itself and 3000 acres of woods filled up with hillbillies and bootleggers.
Teenagers from all over the city would go out there at nights (1952-1958 years) and have bonfires and parties and all the rest on top of that mountain. And we'd race motorcycles out there with those country boys and they hated us kids from the city. Plenty of fine looking little country gals lived out that way too, which led to many fist fights as we were hustling on them like crazy. Those country boys could hit HARD too. I got a cracked bone in my nose to this day from one of those uppercuts from one of those guys.
There were no "rules" or lawyers running around back then messing up all the fun. You could even drive your car almost to the top on the walkup trail.
I watched that lake being built and have extensive photo collection of the bottom of it before the water went in it. I am making a REAL fishing map of the lake to sell. For every structure situation there will be underwater drawings of the bars accompanied by photographs when there was no water in it. Very little bs about the "hot" lures, etc etc etc.
Some of the articles I've read about the big shot fishermen who go there are simpy hilarious...they dont know what they dont know. I held the lake record for bass over there for years with an 11-3 which was mounted in the bait shop until it closed down. Now I hear that someone cracked that record with a 12 pounder but no evidence has been forthcoming.
I concentrate on the shellcrackers, bluegills, and crappie over there now. Its exactly 6 miles from my carport...like having your own private pond.
Its a good fishing lake..but like all of them, you gotta know where to go, etc etc.
Regards,
Douglas
I told those sandlappers the fact they grew more peaches than Georgia. Still they persist at calling us peaches. I have doing produce for 25 years. Georgia peaches are the highest avg. priced. S Car. peaches mature later than GA(like the sandlappers living there)! Just like the Peaches Georgia fishermen/women are worth more. that is why it won't take as many of us to beat the gang they gonna bring.
