I used to fish at night all the time but that has been a long time ago. I have noticed on here that alot of you use the submersible lights. I was planning on rigging my boat up useing 4 lanterns, 2 off of each side of the boat. That use to be a great method for me. What I want to know is what do you think the best method is. Is the submersible better and why.
Rag.....I've never used the submersible lights so I can't comment on them. I use the hanging Jerry lights that I believe are made by an individual in Dexter, Ga. They pull very few amps and you can run several lights off of a single battery all night long. Most nights, you couldn't possibly have more minnows. I clip them on to 4 ft metals poles and put them in a rod holder to get them away from the boat. This seems to give me a better area of water lit by a single light. My partner uses the same set up. We use 2 lights and fish off the same side of the boat with rod holders from the front to the back of the boat. This helps us watch each others lines and net fish. I think most any lights will work. Even on nights when you have little or no minnows you can still catch fish. This tells me that the crappie associate the light with baitfish even if they are not there. I'm sure that the lanterns that you have will be just fine. Go try them out and let us know how you do.
hey chappy, where you gettin these lights youre talking about?im itching for a try at night stalking.i need to rig my boat for the night

you boys get your stuff together, cause we coming.......:D. ragfly, i dont see much of a difference tween the submersible or the floaters. i like the submersible qbeams cause they are lots easier to store than the floaters, with the stryrofoam collars. we usually put out 4 to 6 lights and with that many lights storage is more of a problem with the floaters with all them collars they ride in. the submersibles all fit in one of them plastic ammo can type boxes for safe keeping. the floaters are a more durable light. years ago we used to use lanterns to but i think the lights work better and less of a hassle.
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
Manta.....You can get them at several different places. Oconee Bait & Tackle in Dublin, Dublin Hunting & Fishing Supply ( I think the guy who makes thems son works here), Lakeside at Lake Sinclair, and the BP at Sinclair just to name a few. They are about 18 inches long and have a single fluorscent bulb w/ a cover. I hope this helps you.
thanks chappy, ill see if i can hunt some up.
also keep in mind, just cause you dont see no bait around the lights dont mean it aint there. its probably there but too deep to see so dont get discouraged cause you aint seeing any bait fish circling the lights near the surface

Man I have never heard of a 12 v flourecent like this. Sure would appreciate it if you could post more info on this rig or a pic or two of the set up. I have a 32 foot toon we nightstalk frrom and about 6 of those could be the ticket, especialy if I could have them fixed under the boat.Originally Posted by crappiechappy
