'scuze me, gents, but I gotta' vent...
Grew up fishing in Arkansas on manmade lakes in flooded farmland and woods. Typically about 10 feet deep. I can catch fish in that kind of lake.
So I'm in Atlanta now, and trying to catch crappie in Lanier and/or Allatoona. I've tried jigging, canepole'n'cork minnows, tight-lining and my BEST day so far has been two fish.
Keepers, yes.
But just two.
And I caught them in 4' of water, in a brushpile, on a minnow under a cork.
I've talked to people and they've said "troll" or "fish docks" and I've tried that. Believe me, I've tried. All kinds of depths. All kinds of methods. Nada.
So how are you fella's catching spring crappie right now on these rockbottom deep lakes?
<scowl>
I live here and have not had great success, I have been on a few fish but have not caught a limit this year.
THere are some guys out there that are killing them but not me.
garndod, check your private messages.
To heck with work, lets go fishing.
you need to try a different lake maybe..a little tnt works well if the warden aint too close![]()
It's hard to fish those 2 lakes cause you spend all your time dodging jet skis, cabin cruisers, 120 mph bass boats being driven by 10 year olds and houseboats with 60 people partying all weekend.:D On the weekends 2/3 the population of Atlanta is floating around there somewhere.

Heh. Yeah, that's why I always go early, like, at dawn...or take a Friday off from time to time. Come lunchtime or so, I'm off and on my way home. Given that, you should see my boat! Picked up some crappie minnows at Hammonds last Saturday morn, and one of those striper boat captains looks down from his perch on his hugh Carolina Skiff and sniffs, "You gonna' git on that big lake with that little bitty boat?!?!"Originally Posted by trumpdriver
Hey, it may be a 1983 Bass Tracker II (16' flat bottomed), with a 1974 40HP merc 402 on it, but (a) it floats, (b) I don't have to paddle, and (c) it's been paid for for two decades. And the motor starts on the first bump. Always. Harumph.
I appreciate the offer score300, PM back at'cha'...
As for the dynamite, that reminds me of a Justin Wilson story...
Hey garndawg,
I have never fished Lanier, but I frequently fish Allatoona. I have not been in a few weeks due to work and fishing out of town. Fish the upper end of the lake, Victoria North. I like the S-Curves North of Victoria and Sweetwater Creek is usually good fishing during the week. The bank leading up to Sweetwater is good too. The fish will also hold close to the tires out from Victoria, this is a good place to drown some minnows. I wish I could tell you exactly were they are at, but I haven't been in a few weeks. You can't go wrong fishing brush and structure, especially if you can find it in a little deeper water. I hope this helps.
LET IT RIP!
