Was thinking about staying somewhere close to home to do some night fishing tonight. I have been a few times at night on tobo with limited success. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
Lower thomaston Rd bridge, should be able to catch a mess of crappie with minnows under lights there.
My grandpap told me growing up..."Son, God doesn't deduct time from your life, spent fishing"
Well I ended up getting to the lake by about 5:30 and decided to eat at the fish n pig on the lake. I had never been there before and it was pretty good. Started shooting docks after i ate dinner and caught 10 crappie mostly 9-10 inches and several bream. Around 7:30 I set up over a brushpile in 15 feet of water. caught 7 more before dark with one that went over 2 lbs. after dark caught 25 more with most of them being 8-10 inches and a few bigger ones mixed in as well as several catfish. called it a night at midnight and brought home a limit of 30. Overall it was a great night on the water and I may have to start fishing tobo more since its so close.
Tobosofkee is actually a pretty good crappie lake. I grew up fishing on this lake, and have had some really good success there. We've caught quite a few fish under the bridges at night, but most of my fishing on the lake has been trolling in the mornings and evenings. A good friend of mine grew up in Glen Echo, and we used to catch a lot of fish behind the dam early in the year.
The only problem fishing Tobo is once the weather warms up, the lake becomes very crowded, especially in the evenings.
Headed that way tonight when I get off of work! Anybody else out there?
I found the same for Blackshear. I remember when I first moved to Valdosta, I started reading and asking around where to get into crappie. Lots of answers, and Blackshear was not one of them. Decided to give it a shot anyway, and found out that it should have been one of those answers. For whatever reason, it is not known for its crappie, except for locals or people who know better. Tobo is not the source for many fishing reports on here save for a few people, and many of those reports have been good ones. The crappie are there, just gotta spend some time figuring it out I guess.Originally Posted by Jason280
Thinking about camping and fishing close to home on weekend of 5-5-07, Blackshaer campground is full! Doesn't Tobo have camping? Anyone know if it is worth pictching a tent there? Will have my youngest son with me and would like to put him on some fish.....haven't night fished from the "new" boat yet but shouldn't take long to rig it for nightstalking. Need a little help from the "locals".....campground close to Lower Thomaston Bridge????? Thanks for any help.........
I know they have camping at the park off mosley dixon rd, i think claystone park. its the one next to central ga marina.
thanks! Are the parks run by the state or Bibb County?
Arrowhead park is the closest to the Lower Thomaston Bridge. It has a few waterfront spots but they get taken up quickly. It is run by Bibb county and they do a pretty good job. I don't think they reserve spots. Here's a link
