a flop. Water was chocolate milk in Swift, all the way to the railroad tressel. I didn't go any further. I guess it really pushed in last night. We fished for about an hour under Smoake without a hit and decided to leave. Checked out the Flint at 32, but that was too high. Headed to Banks Lake in Lakeland, and caught one bass on minnows. Too windy. We were back home by 1230. Thats fishing for you. Sometimes the fish don't even need to not bite, when the conditions do ya in first. Also typical that this happens one of the few times I get to take my wife. Oh well, if your going to fish Blackshear, I'd wait a few days for it to clear up.
Man....that's tough luck. I took those pictures around 7 PM last night and the water looked fine. I did wonder why it was so clear even though the Swift Creek drainage basin got nearly 6" of rain in places several miles upstream .... Guess the mud just hadn't reached Smoak's Bridge when I was there.
I just came over the Hwy 280 bridge and the water looks ok to me. I thought that the mud would be terrible but therer was none to be seen.
Shoot. Maybe I should have gone elsewhere on the main lake. I figured it was coming up Swift from the main lake. I guess after what Joefishin said, it must have been coming down from Swift.
Thanks for the report. Blackshear is so close its always tempting.
Thanks for the report...
Anyone ever fish the deep channels on the upper end near Parker's slough?
how long does it take for Swift to clear?
On the main lake, is it cooler because the Cooler Flint feeds the lake?? How hot does the water get in summer???

"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles." ~Doug Larson
Never fished the north end of the lake. Swift should clear pretty quick. And I would think that the main lake may be cooler. And the water can feel like bath water in the summer. But I guess this is typical of a shallow lake in South Georgia.
i have fished up in the uppend and a frind of mine lived up in campers haven . he fished that aera all the time . mooved away and after he flood in 1994 he said he hasen`t cought fish where he did .he ran creel for the state for several years . he travled from smoke bridge to hwy. 27 bridge . he knew where all the good fishing spots wer for all species of fish wer cought . i ran trot lines in the old oxbow just below parker slough back then . he hasen`t did that sinse he mooved . his brother inlaw owns the dixie rv park up there .
