Around 4 this afternoon a forest fire started across the road from my subdivision. They told us there was a voluntary evacuation, so we decided to stay, but did begin to get some things packed just in case. As I was loading the dog beds in the vehicle, I glanced over to the woods behind the subdivision. They were on fire. Embers from the original fire had jumped the subdivision by at least 500 yards. Now the fire was burning on two sides of me. At that point I decided it was time to get out. Once the wind died down the firefighters were able to get the fire under control. We were allowed back in less than an hour ago. Fortunatly no homes were lost. The fire is still burning, but they say the danger to our homes is over.
Jim, Glad ya'll are okay. Fires are a scary thing for sure. They do weird things quick. Be careful.

The county I live in, Long, battled a forest fire from last Thursday until late Saturday. Wayne Co., the county I work in, had one fire yesterday that almost took out a subdivision. Ware Co. has lost 1000's of acres and as of this morining that fire was only 25% contained. Southeast Ga is burning up. There have been loss of homes and untold other material items but I have not heard of any loss of life as of this morning.
I am glad you are safe Jim.
Birddog,
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
With all of the wind that we've had here lately fire can be a real threat. All though we have had some rain the constant wind dries everything out as soon as it quits raining. I pray that everyone fares well and no one suffers any harm or damage from fire.
Sorry to hear that you came so close. Glad you didn't lose anything. By the way how is your wife doing? Let me know if there anything that I can help you or your wife with. May GOD continue to bless you.
Man, glad it came out ok, could have gone wrong real quick with that wind.
As of tonight the fires are still burning, but contained. The FD set up a water shuttle next to my house, taking water from the pond. Been out there since after work watching them. It will probably take several days before the fires are completly out.
Ragfly,
The wife went back to work today. She was only able to complete a half day though. She still gets tired easily. It will take a while before she has all her strength back.
