    Default Clark Hill Report 4/11 - 4/13

My wife and I stayed at Elijah Clark from Wed until this morning. We got to the lake at about 2:00 pm on Wednesday. Skies were overcast, Temp 61 but it felt like 41, water temp 55 , occasional rain, 5 - 10 mph wind. We started out in a few areas I fished 12+ years ago. We trolled hal fly and tripple ripples in 4 ft - 20 ft of water. Did not catch the first cappie all day. Ended the day with 2 hybrids. Wife - 2 fish Me - 0 fish

Thursday we started the day trolling again. Skies were clear for the day but the wind was 15 - 20 mph . Temp 73 but felt like mid 50s, water temp 60. At lunch, we had not had a bite. My wife loves to bass fish so she wanted to know if we could bass fish for a while. She ended up catching 2 bass that were both to small to keep. We tried trolling again later in the day and once again had no luck. Wife - 4 fish Me - 0 fish

By Friday I had not even gotten a bite. But I was hearing about how much better my wife was at catching fish than I was. We started the day out trolling once again. Skies would be sunny all day, temp 78, water temp 64. After trying a few areas, we still had not caught a crappie. My wife wanted to try to catch some bass again. She was not buying the stories about all the crappie we use to catch trolling. While we were bass fishing, I notice a pile of Christmas trees sticking out of the water. Looked at the depth finder to find out they were in 4ft of water. I decide to throw a jig under a cork around them. I had one bite. My wife was still throwing the plastic worm and had a fish on. She reels him in and its a crappie. I continue to throw the jig but never had another bite. At lunch, I decided to buy some minnows. The wife wanted to take a nap so I went to the trees we found to try my luck. In about 1 hr 15 min, I had caught 3 crappie and missed about 6 fish. We went back later and was able to catch 3 more crappie from the trees. Later in the afternoon, I caught one more hybrid and one bass we kept. My wife caught 2 bass she had to throw back.

11 fish kept for the 3 days - 7 crappie, 3 hybrids, 1 largemouth. Not the best fishing conditions but, we made the most of it and had a good time. People staying in cottages next to us said they were only catching 5 - 10 a day. They were only able to catch them on minnows and were fishing in Soap Creek. The ones they caught were in 40 ft of water.

Sounds like a tough 3 days fishing but atleast you ajnd the wife got to spend some quality time together. And you got a mess to cook too. Coulda been worse. Atleast there are better days coming when this cold front gets out of here (I hope!).
