    Default Lake Oconee report: Slow and Muddy

    Slow and muddy best describes Oconee right now. Met up with Rick 1971 this morning at 8 am, we put in at Swords ramp and went up the Appalachee. I caught five pretty nice fish. There were probably 10-12 other boats out there and nobody was catching any to amount to anything. We had more than anyone that we talked to. We knocked off around 2 pm. When we got back to the ramp, two other fellers both had one a piece and they gave them to me to go with mine. I ended up with a nice mess for supper !!!!!!!

    Default Lake Oconee / Appalachee

    I am loaded and ready to go to Oconee/Appalache; however; I just checked the CyberAngler webpage; Doug Nelms; and he states the lake is very muddy and is very high; will be a couple of days before the fishing picks up; darn; tomorrow was supposed to be a warm; low wind day; as perdicted by;

    I might go anyway and put in at Long Shoals; maybe the mud hasn't got there yet.

    If I were you and I was dead set on going, I'd try the lower end of the lake around Richland Creek and Sandy Creek. There's some clearer water down there I'm sure. The Appalachee is a mess right now.

    Default Lake Oconee

    Yep; I think you are right; I had a home on the lake down there for a couple of years and I was always told the best fishing was on Richland Creek.

    It is always clear; at least clearer than the other parts of the lake.

    So:

    My tackle is loaded; my boat has had the motor run to clear the old fuel; my batteries are on full charge"Dual Pro " 15 amp charger; my livewell in the rear is filled with city water and is being recirculated with the Ranger Recirc. system; see Roger Miller at Flo-Rite; my minnow trap is in my minnow pond;;;; 16x32 inground pool; my Ram 3500 is full of fuel; my lunch is packed;
    what did I forget:

    Oh yeah; I think I will put in at Granite Shoals Marina;

    Red Ranger with a Black Schnauser on the Bow.

    See Ya.

    Hope they get turned on by Saturday. Since the wife is coming with me on this trip I would love to see her get into a mess of crappie.

    I fished Sandy creek yesterday. The water is well stained and no action to talk about.
    I saw one of the lake guides fishing there and he had only landed 3 small crappie. He was fishing the right side of the creek chanel where the bottom rises from about 12 feet of water up to 8 feet. He fished there the whole time and never moved off of that one spot. . . fishing jigs about 6 to 7 feet deep.
    He new what spot to fish I,m not sure if he using the right jig for the stained water. He was the only one I saw catch a fish the whole time I was there.
