    Default Question about talquin

I'm new to longlining and have been to talquin twice. This past weekend, I pulled 1/16 oz. jigs, .7 to 1 mph with various colors around Boy scout. We caught two fish in four hours. With the 50 degree water should I have used weight or double rigged? I usually catch a few, but would like to catch a mess. Any suggestions?

    Default longlining

You should add weight to your line to get your jigs down. a split shot seems to get the jigs deeper than double rigging. you could have went slower to get them deeper.but that doesnt seem to work as well.
try adding different size split shots to 1/16 jigs and stay at the speed you were going and you should be right on the money when you determine what depth your jigs are running.

I longlined boy scout all weekend with good luck. Last weekend I fished 6 rods out front with 2 12ft doubled jigged with 1/16 oz. no extra weight. 2 9ft and 2 7ft. with 1/16 oz jig with # 5's. In the rear I used 4 8ft rods with 1/16 oz. jigs and a #4. Line lenght varied on depth. Red tri heads with popsiscle,Orange tri heads with acid rain and Chart. tri heads with bubblegum. Did'nt change that color combo Fri thru Sun and I did well. Threw in a few pony jigs of the same colors. Fished these combo's from 14 to 24 FOW. I'am finding the tri heads and pony's are getting good hook sets and did'nt lose but 4 fish all weekend..... Anyone planning on fishing the spawn on Talquin needs to make reservations now or plan on staying at the motel up on I 10.....I'am going down tomorrow am and will fish this way intil something changes, which I'am sure will....The fish are staging in front of the creeks but haven't moved in yet. 80% of the fish caught were big males... I hope this helps...

We'll be down in two weeks staying at LTL. Made our reservations months ago.
Never been that late in March so not sure what to expect.

Thanks for the great info! The pony jig you refer to, is that like a roadrunner by Blakemore? Couple of questions, are the fish staging in front of all the creeks? The traffic at boy scout was that because of the wind or was that the only place they were biting?

Threejack bring a big ice chest.....Skipp pony is simalar, I won't know where the fish are now but be assured there getting ready to be in all the creeks soon. You can get those pony's at the pool store in Cochran or at LTL on Talquin. Don't wait to long to come back I hear Litewirehookers on his way and that means trouble for the fishier......
