I am looking for a new trolling motor and i am very interested in the minnkota v2 powerdrives. I am aware of the auto-piolet and love it. And i know that the i-piolet is the newest attachable upgrade for these motors. my question is; since the i-piolet takes the place of the auto-p, and is compatible with the v2 powerdrive. cant i take auto piolet and put it on a standard v2 powerdrive.
thanks for all of your imput.

Kevin,
I do know that Chuckauten had an auto pilot installed on his V2 thru a dealer. I have not had any experience adding this feature to a standard V2 but it makes sense to me the answer would be yes...I would think that if you take the head with the Auto Pilot off to install the I-Pilot, you could take the head off the standard V2 and install the head with the Auto Pilot on it...Sounds good and easy enough, but like I said, I have had no experience with that. Go to the Fishing Electronics and Trolling Motors forum and throw that question out there. There are a lot of smart people who monitor that forum and I am sure you will get the answer, or just PM Cane Pole...He is awesome on electronics!!

Kmed I would go with a Minn Kota Terrova. The deployment of the motor is alot easier and the auto pilot can be turned on and off with the remote if equipped with it. The Terrova motor movement from side to side is quick. Speaking of I Pilot, I am not familiar with it to comment, however I did talk to a couple of fellows while fishing on Oconee the other day who had it on their trolling motor and they seem to really like it.
called minn kota today and they said that the circuit board the the standard v2 is different. and is not compatible with the auto piolet, but that the i-piolet comes with an adaptable circuit board. doesnt really make any sense. well i guess it does when you are in the buisness of selling trolling motors. i think my best bet is to just buy what i think i want(need).
but my problem is that i do all kind of crappie fishin, longlining, tight lining, dock shooting, etc... i dont know what to do. i know the i-piolet will do all of this but dang, big bucks for that set up.![]()
Buv a standard V2 motor without the A/P now, then save you pennies and add the I-pilot later.
I have a terrova with autopilot and I am extremely happy with it. I think next year the I pilot will come down in price and I'll revisit that issue. If your shopping for a new unit let LTL price it they buy directly from the wholesaler..
The prices I have seen for a new12V 55# thrust V2 with AP versus the 12V 55# Thrust with I-Pilot is only around $60.00 or so. And about the same price difference for the 24V 70# thrust....So if you are looking into buying a new one, it really isn't that much difference considering the price you have to pay anyway.....And now I know that the Auto Pilot cant replace the standard V2![]()
