I will be meeting wih DNR in the very near future and this topic will become perdinant information in persuit of the fish quality issue's that are currently at hand on some of our reservoirs. I know those that are fed by the Hooch are stable in crappie populations. I am not familiar with most of the northern locations first hand. What are your thoughts and why?
I don't know much about the lakes outside the Hooch. I fish from the south end of Euphala to Franklin ga. That is 147.8 miles of river . There is very little shoreline if any that I havent see or fished. It is rare to see a fish over 2lbs. I would bet my last nickle that the average is less than 1Lb. What can we do to get the size up. What can be done about the mortality. Miss., Arkansa, lakes report larger fish. Why not Ga. Maybe it will not or cant ever be. Someone should know why. Arkansas DNR shocked 6 # fish. H-E-L-L-O !!!!
facman, let me know when you set a date and time. I want to go along. I promise not to embarrass you or alienate anyone . I will only cuss a little.
It's those little words that frighten the 2lb fish away... ><{{{(*>
J.I.L. <*)}}}><
I will Henry and anyone else is welcome but i am goin first time to meet/greet and find out the jest of the situation and what DNR may need from us. Then we all will put our heads together and determine the who/what/when/where and how's to get this goin in the best direction. An official meeting can be scheduled soon after.
In a nutshell, they need to know the specific concern with specific location to be able to research the area's biological data logs, recruitment surveys, mortality rates, ect... before DNR can begin to propose a logical solution. Really a lot of effort on their part because the info is only recorded on paper from my understanding......Put your seat belts on fellas, cause the ride has just begun :D
This is some Good stuff Joe!! I don’t think the DNR could find a better resource than right here.
born to Fish, forced to work
Joe,
Good to see we got some attention. Let me know if you want me to join you in any meetings. I will try to get up that way to be a part of it if I can. Time and distance is always my problem. One thing you might want to touch on with Steve is the boundary waters. Is GADNR willing to work with the neighboring States?
Since Oconee is my favorite lake I would like to see that get some attention. And by some of the past posts it appears Sinclair has a lot of fish but not big ones. Maybe that would be the best place to start. Just curious, since Oconee and Sinclair are linked, would doing something on one lake affect the other? Since I don't have any lakes in my area and only get to these others only once or twice a year I can't really say where to start. I guess I would have to defer to those who live close to and fish particular lakes on a regular basis.
you know I will be there Joe . Just let me Know
