I just had to get out of the house today and check out some of my favorite crappie spots. I called a fishing buddy and we drove down to the Coosa and then down to Weiss. The Coosa appears to be flowing normal and clear for this time of year. Water temp report in river is 39 degrees. Weiss is down 6.5 ft. They (COE) usually dont drop any lower 7 ft. In viewing the Coosa from a vehicle it seems to have changed in places from the excessive rains. A lot of the visible structure I previously fished cant be seen. Ive been told by a local guide who has been out in boat checking the river that a lot of sand and silt has lodged in mouths of feeder creeks makimg them treacherous to get into to fish. Shallow water and boat ramps that we saw were frozen. No one fishing. I waiting for Thursday, that will be 3 days of moderate warming. Ive got the boat all charged up and ready to go. Im feeling better just thinking about Thursday. LOL Did I say I like to Crappie Fish? Good Fishing All. BB
