I will not support any more regulations. We have enough rules and regulations to go by. Next thing will be a fishing season and we will only be able to fish during certain times of the year.
What harm would a 10" limit on certain lakes do?
If you have every fished Talquin you would see that a lake or several lakes would benefit the whole state as well as us crappie fishermen.
That would leave plenty of water to fish for dinks if thats your thing....The last several years I have limited myself to fish that are 8" or better....anything under that is put back for seed.
My grandpap told me growing up..."Son, God doesn't deduct time from your life, spent fishing"
might as well get use to it it never seems to end
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
A 10" fish does not have that much meat and not worth fileting. I personally keep only those above 11" and not fat with eggs. I fish for the pleasure, not to stock the freezer. If I am out of fish to eat, then the second isle at Sam/s has some good farm raised catfish. The regulation is help keep our crappie fisheries. It has been proven tool in creating a good fishery in many lakes and states.
Everyone has there opinion, that is why this forum was created. Mostly to help every fisherman get answers to questions they may have.

Exactly!!!!! I hate to be this way but I guarentee you that these people that are against this limit are the same ones that either go out and catch a 100 by themselves and sell half of them or they don't know how to truly crappie fish and only catch dinks in the first place... Anybody who has ever been to Talquin or any other lake that has had this law implemented long enough knows that it only makes the fishing LOTS better. These are closed minded people!!!!:D:D
P.S. The game wardens are going to have to do there part in keeping these lakes checked or this will not work to start with...
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.:D
I fully support a 10" limit on certain lakes. I like to eat fish but I catch plenty of 10" + fish to feed me and family. If not theres always a good old farm pond to catch catfish and such.
I can see both sides of this.
Pro: In support of a limit size mandated by Government regulations
Results: 1. Eventually larger fish to catch.
2. Larger work load on DNR.
3. A need for more revenue (higher taxes) to support DNR work load
4. Possible over population due to lesser size fish returned to water.
Cons: Not in support of more Government regulations i.e. taking away more freedoms American citizens enjoy
Results: 1. Penalties for non compliance
2. smaller fish to catch due to over fishing
3. Less work load for DNR
4. Less taxes
When it's all put into the pot and washed down, I don't like the idea of any Government agency taking away one more right that I have. I don't like the idea of one more tax being placed upon me for whatever reason.
However, I also wouldn't like a careless angler who would over fish and could care less about preservation of our lakes and streams and the fish that live in it.
I will say this. It has been my experience that I've never once met a person such as this who is a crappy fisher. I'm sure they exist, I have never met one. Most serious crappie anglers I meet are gentlemen. Nice guys who'd give you the shirt off their back if you needed it.
Perhaps education and a Southern Gentlemens agreement would be more appropriate than having the Government regulate one more freedom out from under our ever growing lack of those freedoms.
Our Government has grown out of it's own holding pond and has become extremely too large and I simply can't support any more growth. We should (and eventually must) do some trolling in the halls of our regulators as they've become nothing more than power hungry feeders at the trough of the American Tax payer. It's beyond sickening, and never once was this type of government control that our constitution writers had in mind.
States rights have been trampled by Federal bureaucrats in the name of "for the betterment" of society.
Wouldn't this be what we're asking the DNR to do? We're asking the DNR to take away our rights and fine us, if we're caught with a crappie that's less than a certain size?
I won't keep a dink...when I'm out seriously fishing. But if I have a four year old fishing with me, and he catches a dink... THE LAST THING I WOULD DO, would be to crush his little feelings and throw his little dink back. We'd celebrate his catch and I'd encourage him to fish for something larger!!
I'd figure out something with the dink if I could, but I dang sure don't want a DNR person checking my live well then fining me because my 4 year old wanted to show Mama his fish!!! Think about it.
I offer education as the answer, not more government intrusion into our world of fishing. If we give them an inch... they'll take the whole damn ruler.
Support catch and release along with education.
Keep only what your going to eat, and take a youngun fishin!
Just my two cents![]()
let have some fun with crappie facts
crappie dont reach spawning age till 4 years of age witch is about 10 inches so the 10 inch rule is to help lakes with 2 things numbers and size see in 5 years after a rule like that starts will not have a prob becouse will be a abundant of 10 to 12 inch fish and will be every year after that too
as for poeple not liking the30 a day if they wasnt paper thin wouldnt need more then that to feed your famly i know alot of us here fish a good bit even if u do keep 30 a day as much as i go fishing i would b throwing fish away out of my freezer you only need what you will eat
