Volunteers needed to clear flood debris along West Point

WEST POINT, GA - Volunteers are being sought to assist with shoreline clean-up on Nov. 7, when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold the annual West Point Lake Shoreline Clean-up Day.

Volunteers should plan to arrive at Earl Cook Recreation Area by 8:30 a.m. The annual clean-up is a community wide effort to remove trash and debris from the shoreline areas of West Point Lake.

Adjacent landowners are encouraged to take part in the clean-up effort. Those participants who can form groups (such as subdivisions) to take part, will be provided with trash bags and removal of the full bags following the event. Dock owners are encouraged to pick up the litter and debris around their docks.

Trash may be placed in trash bags and, if owners are unable to carry the bags back to their property, place the filled bags on the shoreline near their docks.

Dock owners who leave filled refuse bags on the shoreline should contact the West Point Project Management Office at 706-645-2937 and

provide an exact location for the filed trash bags so that the Corps can arrange to have them removed.

Individuals or groups interested in volunteering for the clean-up day should contact Park Ranger Rocky Millenbine at 706-645-2937 to confirm their interest in participating.
