Default Catchin crappie on small crank baits

I've had pretty good luck in the summer months pulling Bandit Baits or other small crank baits for crappie on the flats at Allatoona. Has anyone ever tried it with success on Lanier? If the rain holds off long enough on Tuesday morning I think I'll give it a try on Lanier. I would go to Allatoona but it takes twice the gas in my truck to get there. (although it might be worth it)

Default Cranks

I use the same method in the summer months here in Ohio... Enjoy it while it last... HIt the lake last evening thinking the conditions were going to be right to pull and and the crappie had moved to laydowns in shallow water.. right up against the bank... Thermocline is at 12 foot and every fish in the lake is in twelve foot or less... looks cool on the sonar though..

can you post methods you use to catch crappie trolling crankbaits at lanier. Not locations but things you look for while on the lake. I fish lanier for crappie but never tried that method. THANKS.

I usually troll the crankbaits on a 20 foot flat next to a river channel. I often troll the area with my graph first looking for the fish and to make sure where any trees may be so I don't get hung up. I will troll with 3 rods on each side. Each rod will have a different size crankbait 100 series, 200 series, 300 series so that each bait is at a different depth to cover more of the water column and so the baits won't get tangled up.

Thanks for all the info, enough to get me started. I have the rodhodlers and baits now locate depth, trees and fish on the graph in the low water, I'm ready to go.

Crappie day and I tried trolling with crank baits a couple of weeks ago. We had luck catching fish, but they weren't crappie. They were the real toothy long nose kind of fish. It was allot of fun, but not the fish we were looking for. The gar are in the upper part of the water column and pretty aggressive. We had 10 poles out and it never failed when we had a gar nearly all the lines would get tangled up.

Yea I've seen the gar around but have not hooked into one yet. The gar is one reason I'm seriously thinking about going to the toona instead.
