Question Boat Insurance

Here is a question for you guys...I have never had boat insurance mainly because I never had anything much worth insuring... I thought about it on my last boat, just never pursued it...But I know I need some liability insurance in case something was to happen and now I have something I feel should have some sort of insurance on it. I plan on using this boat more than I have ever used a boat in the past...What kinda of insurance premiums are you guys paying? (Ball park figure)

$285 w/ progressive. That's full coverage on the boat, trailer, fishing rods, everything.

Up until Juyl 08, I had full coverage with Farm Bureau on my boat, $200.00 a year. Because of the age of my boat, I droped everything except liability. Cost me about $10 or $15.00 for the liability with them, for a year.

I pay $10 a month for full coverage. $5000 on my boat and $5000 in electronics and equipment. I'm not sure what my liability coverage is.

Check you homeowners policy. Some cover boats up to a certain horsepower. I added a rider for my SeaChaser and Johnson 90. Cost me about $135/year. Covers damage and has a towing reimbursement. I compared to Progressive and the cost is about the same. There may be a gap in the coverage between the rider and a standalone, but I haven't found it yet. Probably will when I have a claim.

I was mostly concerned with the liability. "Stuff" can be replaced...the insurance just helps to lessen the blow.

Check Progressive, BoatUS Angler and other companies to get a cost then call your homeowners agent.

Can't hurt.
