Default Crappie Flies?

Are there any flies that outproduce others when it comes to fly fishing for crappies? Is a 3wt rod ok? I use it for bream, but never crappie.

I know guys that use 1 wts so you're good. Flies you can play all day with switching to get them to hit. Wooley buggers, crappie candy, nymphs, pheasant tail nymphs are all good. Lot's of new foam patterns out there.

A guy who makes some really cool flies out of everthing writes at Fly Anglers On-line Fly Anglers OnLine, Your Complete Internet Flyfishing Resource., on the left side of the screen click on features, then scroll down to Panfish click on it and the current article comes up, at the bottom of the article is the link for the archieve of his articles.

Enjoy he's got some neat patterns.

Yeah, that's Rick Zeiger. He has a couple of columns on "Rick's Favorite Bluegill Flies" and "Rick's Favorite Crappie Flies".

Read this article. Link below.

Wet Flies for Big 'Gills and Crappie

I have done well on both of these wet flies, the IM and the IBG. The other fly I like to use when the Specks are deep is the Crappie Candy.
